Mock trial – an engaging and effective form of legal education for students.

On the mornings of November 4 and November 11, at two schools — Minh Quang Secondary School (Ba Vi Commune, Hanoi) and Quynh Mai Secondary School (Quynh Mai Ward, Hanoi) — Lawyer Phan Thi Chinh and office staff member Nguyen Quynh Chi participated in legal education and legal aid activities by organizing a “mock trial” on the topic of preventing cybercrime.

To respond to the atmosphere of the week celebrating Vietnam Law Day, on November 4 and 11, lawyers and staff members of HHM Vietnam Law Firm, together with lawyers from the Hanoi Bar Association, participated in a legal aid activity in the form of a mock trial. The events were attended by a large number of students and teachers at two schools in Hanoi.

Understanding the urgency of cybersecurity in the digital era, the organizers focused the mock trials on the topic of laws in cyberspace, specifically the crime of using computer networks, telecommunications networks, or electronic means to appropriate property.

The presentations helped students better understand the basic elements of this crime under Article 290 of the Penal Code. In particular, students learned to recognize common criminal methods such as identity impersonation, sending fake links to steal login data, taking control of user accounts, or manipulating online transactions.

The mock trial briefly reenacted the procedures of a criminal court hearing, helping students visualize the roles of participants in legal proceedings, including the judge, prosecutor, court clerk, defense lawyer, defendant, and victim.

At both schools, students showed great interest and attentively followed the program, engaging in lively discussions about issues related to daily internet use. Teachers also actively exchanged ideas to enhance internal education on cybersecurity.

Through the mock trials, the lawyers contributed to strengthening students’ legal knowledge and raising their awareness and responsibility when participating in the online environment.
